Ha! That’s what I have coming up, nay, bubbling up inside of me right now in the face of our mutual enemy – one, big ole fat – HA!
More than ever he has been in the face of many; shouting his accusations, releasing hissing whippers, and forcing his plans – or at least trying to force his plans – to bear fruit, as rotten as that is in our lives – bleh!
Well, since he’s in our faces — I say, as long as he is there, spewing his words, we might as well SPEAK GOD’S WORD into his face! Let’s be Kingdom productive, shall we?
But GOD! Hear His Words clearly from Is. 43:19 —
DANCE THROUGH YOUR DESERT!
Yes, my fellow Kingdom travelers, Dance Through Your Desert.
No matter where you are in your walk with HIM, there will be opps to complain, murmur, drag our feet [pardon the pun], and in general, just not cooperate with Him or His process of conforming us to the image of His Son.
But if you will make the choice to work with Him in the process, then your terrain [desert, valley, wilderness] and travels will take an upturn!
I can hear it now: “But the sand is hot … but the heat is intense … but the sand is gritty and getting in between my toes … but I’m parched … but I’m all alone!”
Allow me to share some benefits that He has been sharing with me about the desert’s elements: heat, sand, and location.
Firstly, heat can be used to relax tense muscles. When we’ve been walking hard after the flesh, making our steps harder than they have needed to be – it causes the muscles to tense up.
Always trying to figure “it” all out instead of trusting and resting in the finished work that Jesus accomplished and/or trying to make “it” happen in our strength. What strength?!?!
All that hard, rough stepping has caused callouses to develop, making our walk with the Lord dry and hardened.
And that gritty sand is priceless! It is an exfoliator of endless applications! As you walk in it, with the right perspective, then it will soften and make smooth those calloused places in your walk with the Lord.
The sand between the toes? Yes, beneficial beyond description – as it rubs away the toe jam! I know, gross, right!?! But don’t you know what toe jam is made up of? Dust, lint, dead skin cells — yes, dead things! The only thing that benefits from toe jam are the mites that feast on said t.j.!
Y’all remember the “ites” from the stories in the Old Testament? They were pesky-pests peeps that were constantly causing the children of God problems!
That’s right – we all have dead things that weigh down our steps. As you Dance Through Your Desert, that gritty sand is removing all the dead things that hold your feet down below where God wants to elevate you to.
Mt. 11:29 MSG “Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.”
Now, what about location? What does that mean? Well, middle of nowhere, absolutely not a soul in sight … or is there?
Hmmm … you know you’ve seen in movies during the suspenseful scene where the hero or heroine is left to die or see if they will survive a trek in the desert with little or no provisions … I know I have. Utterly alone. Dry cracked lips with the dried white foam in the corners. Skin burnt to a crisp. See them? And then it happens!
A mirage appears! A beautiful oasis is up ahead. Shade. Water. HOPE!
A few more steps and they’ll be there — only to discover it wasn’t real, just a figment of their fatigued imagination. The enemy uses mirages during our desert treks. But his mirage is the entire scene! That we are alone, that we have no provisions, that we aren’t going to make it!
When we look at the scene through our spiritual eyes, we can see that many are walking along in their desert treks, right alongside of us! We are NOT ALONE – elbow to elbow we are walking toward home, toward Him!
And the provision of His Word to water us along the way is always available. We can drink it in, we can soak in it, we can wash in it. Isn’t it interesting that a lot of the references to His Word have to do with water? A life-giving, life-sustaining element. How interesting. 🙂
I don’t have a clue where you are in your journey. Maybe you’re on a desert trek, or wandering around in the wilderness, or vacillating in a valley somewhere. But the common denominator is that HE is with you! And in that one revelation, you have everything you need to get through the process that each terrain presents in our walk with Him.
Lastly, I would like to point out that the Holy Ghost is the BEST dance teacher evah! Enjoy His company, enjoy His music, and follow His lead!
